This unit is a photoelectric smoke alarm. Photoelectric technology is more sensitive to in detecting slow smolder fires which generates thick, black smoke, produce little heat and may smolder for hours before bursting into flames. The smoke alarm does not contain radioactive materials and is harmless to the environment.

Smoke alarms should be installed practically in all rooms, except for the bathroom. It should also be installed in strategic places all over the house to make sure that people at home will be able to hear and respond to the alarm.

For minimum protection, an alarm should be fitted in the hallway between the living area and the sleeping area. Place the alarm closest to the living area as possible making sure that the alarm is still audible in the bedrooms with closed doors.Recommendation for a single storey dwelling: Install a smoke alarm on the ceiling or wall inside each bedroom and in the hall outside each separate sleeping area. If a bedroom area hallway is more than 30 feet long, install a smoke alarm at each end.

If there is a basement: install a smoke alarm on the basement ceiling at the bottom of the stairway. Recommended protection for typical multi-storey dwelling: Install a smoke alarm on the ceiling or wall inside each bedroom and in the hall outside each separate sleeping area.

LED Indicators
Illumination of the Green LED indicates that the alarm is receiving AC power. This alarm is equipped with a red indicator, with two modes of operation: Red LED flashing every 32 seconds indicates that the alarm is operating properly. Red LED flashing when the Test Button is pressed or when the alarm sense particles of combustion and goes into alarm (constant pulsating sound) the Red LED will flash once per second. The alarm will continue until the air is cleared.

Alarm Silencer (Hush Mode)
The Hush Mode has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for about 8 minutes. This feature is to be used only when entering into a condition known to trigger smoke alarms such as smoke from cooking. Large quantities of combustible particles are generated from spills or when grilling/frying. The Hush Mode is extremely useful in areas such as kitchen prone to nuisance alarms. The smoke alarm will automatically reset after approx 8 minutes. If after this period, and particles of combustion are still present, the alarm will be triggered. The Hush Mode can be used repeatedly.
